Wisdom from experienced Betta keepers.
Bettas are tropical fish. They need a stable temperature between 78-80ยฐF. Cold water weakens their immune system.
Bowls are bad! Bettas need at least 5 gallons (19L) for swimming space and stable water parameters.
Plastic plants can tear delicate betta fins. Use live plants or soft silk plants to provide hiding spots.
Your tank must be cycled (0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite) before adding fish. This takes 4-6 weeks with a new filter.
Bettas are weak swimmers (especially long-finned ones). Use a sponge filter or adjustable flow to prevent them from getting blown around.
Bettas are carnivores. Feed high-quality pellets, frozen bloodworms, and daphnia. Avoid plant-based flakes.
